This tour covers some very important attractions in Kandy city. The city lies in the midst of hills in the Kandy plateau, which crosses an area of tropical plantations, mainly tea. Kandy is both an administrative and religious city and is also the capital of the Central Province. During this visit you will visit the Spice Garden at Mawanella, Tea factory in Giragama, Temple of Tooth Relic, Market Square, Upper Lake Drive, Gem Lapidary and a Wood Carving Center in Kandy with Lunch at Oak-ray Restaurant. This shore excursion to the last stronghold of the Sinhalese will give you a mix feeling about the cultural differences; climatic differences and many more.
You will be picked up from the passenger pier in Colombo harbor and then proceed to Kandy.
If you are interested about the Spices, you will be able to visit a well maintained spice garden in Mavanella en route to Kandy. For centuries, spices have been one of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated exports and are used for medicines and cosmetics as well as to flavor foods. You will sample scents and flavors such as cinnamon, ginger, pepper, vanilla and cardamom.
When finished spice garden visit, arrive at Giragama Tea Factory. Tea was first planted in Sri Lanka in 1824 at the Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, when a few plants were brought from China. Your will spend an hour exploring the plantation and factory before leaving for Kandy which is approximately 30 minutes away.
Arrive at Oak-Ray Restaurant for lunch. After lunch, you will visit a Gem Lapidary and Wood Carving center.
After lunch, leave to visit Bahirawakanda Buddha stature that is known as big Buddha is one of the most scenic places in the city.
On completion of Bahirawakanda temple visit, arrive at Kandy Temple. To the Buddhists of Sri Lanka and the World, Kandy is one of the most sacred sites as it is the home of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. You will visit this wonderful temple followed by an upper lake drive. The Kandy Lake that was built by king Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe in 1807 is one of the major highlights in the city. The upper lake drive is more scenic and memorable.
Leave Kandy and proceed back to the Colombo harbor. You will be driven approximately 4 hours to reach Colombo harbor. Once arrived, you can head on with your next cruise journey with the blessings!
