Going through some beautiful narrow roads passing paddy fields to enjoy some historical temples will be one of the greatest experiences that you will do whilst spending your busy time in the Colombo city. This temple trail covers a nice rock temple of Korathota, Hindu temple of Nawagamuwa & Rankaduwa that show the mix of Buddhist and Hindu beliefs and traditions in one place, the Kelaniya Temple which is one of the most important temples in Sri Lanka that the Lord Buddha has visited. You will be picked up from your hotel in Colombo or Mount Lavinia by one of our team members.
Passing some beautiful paddy fields and narrow roads, you will reach Korathota Rock Temple that has been found nearly 6th century BC. According to the historical information, there are many hidden and mysterious stories behind this temple. You will have to climb a short and non-strenuous climb of 10-15 minutes to reach the cave temple. There are around six caves in this temple with a unique insight for each.
Leave the temple and proceed to Nawagamuwa. On the way you will stop for a light refreshment with king coconut.
You will reach the Nawagamuwa Buddhist & Hindu temple which is an archaeologically protected monument in Colombo which date back to a BC era. This Hindu Temple is popular among people for its wonders and blessings of Goddess Paththini.
Enjoy a Sri Lankan Lunch at a local Restaurant.
Reach Rankaduwa Buddhist & Hindu Temple and attend the puja with fruit offerings to the god. Speak to a monk and learn about these traditions before leaving the place.
Arrive at the Kalaniya Temple which is one of the most important Buddhist sanctuaries in Sri Lanka as it is one of the three locations that the lord Buddha has visited in Sri Lanka. Lord Buddha visited Kelaniya to stop the war between two brothers called ‘Chulodara’ and Mahodara’ over a jewel encrusted throne.
Leave the temple and proceed back to your hotel in Colombo or Mount Lavinia. You will be dropped of at about 19:00hrs in your hotel.
