Kalametiya is a coastal wetland sanctuary situated in picturesque southeast coast of Sri Lanka. This sanctuary is rich with bio diversity & reckoned as one of the oldest bird sanctuaries in Sri Lanka. This Sanctuary provides an outstanding beauty littered with numerous bays, coves, lagoons, rocky outcrops and sandy beaches stretching from Tangalle to Hambantota. Kalametiya records 150 species of birds and out of that 54 are migratory & 4 are nationally threatened birds. 38 species of reptiles, 41 species of fish, about 20 species of mammals with 4 endemics & many endemic plants have been recorded within the Sanctuary.
